The world is full of questions.
What’s yours?
Why do certain voices get heard while others are ignored? How can a film change the way we see the world? And what can the stories we tell reveal about the society we live in?
These are illustrative questions to spark curiosity, not a confirmed list of the 2027 course topics.
“I'm retiring as Head of English, not from my love for helping you find your voices.”
Before teaching English, Sandy worked in publishing and editing and in museum curation. Her work has taken her into conversations with former political prisoners and survivors of the Holocaust and other genocides.
She has spent years teaching English in South African high schools, leading an English department, mentoring teachers and helping learners develop the confidence to think independently and express what they mean.
For Sandy, English is about more than words on a page. It is an opportunity to question, interpret, debate and discover your own perspective.
Sandy will retire as Head of English at the end of 2026, but she will continue running Further Studies English part-time at the school.
She will be available in the afternoons to learners in Grades 10, 11 and 12 who would like to explore Further Studies English with her.
